The BSHP-SNA is a nonprofit organization for students enrolled in nursing programs at the Baptist School of Health Professions in San Antonio, Texas. It is dedicated to fostering the professional development of nursing students.
Mission Statement
The Purpose
- To assume responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality of healthcare
- To provide programs and educational opportunities representative of the fundamental and current professional interest and concerns, and
- To aid in the development of the whole person, and his/her professional role, and his/her responsibility for the health care of people in all walks of life.
The Function
- To have direct input into standards of nursing education and influence the education process
- To influence health care, nursing education and practice through legislative activities as appropriate
- To promote and encourage participation in community affairs and activities towards improving health care and the resolution of related social issues
- To represent a positive image of nursing to the consumer, to institutions, media, and other organizations
- To promote and encourage student participation in interdisciplinary activities
- Refuse to engage in, or condone, discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, ethnicity, age, gender, marital status, life style, disability, or economic status; and
- To promote and encourage collaborative relationships with nursing and related health organizations
History
The Baptist School of Health Professions (BSHP) has had student nursing organizations in the past, but the official start of the organization called the BSHPSNA starts in the beginning of 2009. The BSHPSNA started with the goal of service to the students of the BSHP as well as to the the community.
